The first two editions of the Dictionary of Neurological Signs were very well-received by readers and reviewers alike. Like those editions, this Third Edition, updated and expanded, can be almost as well described in terms of what the book is not, along with details about what it is. The Dictionary is not a handbook for treatment of neurological disorders. While many entries provide the latest treatment options, up-to-the-minute therapies are not discussed in bedside level detail. The Dictionary is not a board review book because it is not in Q&A format but could easily serve in that capacity since each entry is a fairly complete snapshot of a specific disorder or disease. The Dictionary is an alphabetical listing of commonly presenting neurological signs designed to guide the physician toward the correct clinical diagnosis. The Dictionary is focused, problem-based, concise and practical. The structured entries in this practical, clinical resource provide a thumbnail of a wide range of neurological signs. Each entry includes: • A definition of the sign • A brief account of the clinical technique required to elicit the sign • A description of the other signs which may accompany the index sign • An explanation of pathyophysiological and/or pharmacological background • Differential diagnosis • Brief treatment details Where known, these entries also include the neuroanatomical basis of the sign. The Dictionary of Neurological Signs, Third Edition, is an indispensable reference for all students, trainees, and clinicians who care for patients with neurological disorders

Connections define the functions of neurons: information flows along connections, as well as growth factors and viruses, and even neuronal death may progress through connections. Knowledge of how the various parts of the brain are interconnected to form functional systems is a prerequisite for the proper understanding of data from all fields in the neurosciences. Clinical Neuroanatomy: Brain Circuitry and Its Disorders bridges the gap between neuroanatomy and clinical neurology. It emphasizes human and primate data in the context of disorders of brain circuitry which are so common in neurological practice. In addition, numerous clinical cases demonstrate how normal brain circuitry may be interrupted and to what effect. Following an introduction into the organization and vascularisation of the human brain and the techniques to study brain circuitry, the main neurofunctional systems are discussed, including the somatosensory, auditory, visual, motor, autonomic and limbic systems, the cerebral cortex and complex cerebral functions.

This focused book deals clearly and concisely with the principles of management of patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). It emphasizes the published and verifiable evidence in support of these principles, and highlights the areas of limited evidence. Best evidence is provided for the current standard treatment of acute ischemic stroke, including intravenous chemical thrombolysis, intra-arterial approaches, blood pressure management, and anti-thrombotic therapy. More modern techniques are also described, such as the use of mechanical devices to evacuate a thrombus, induced hypertension, hyper-oxygenation (hyperoxia), and neuroprotective or neuroregeneration agents.

Hallmark features include:

* Focused on acute ischemic stroke, the most rapidly growing area of stroke management
* Evidence based: Provides best evidence for treatment
* Clearly discusses areas and topics where best evidence has not yet been established
* Lays out treatment plans and protocols in handbook fashion for ease of use and reference, even in emergency situations
* Includes latest and cutting-edge techniques and equipment for dealing with AIS

Acute Ischemic Stroke: An Evidence-based Approach is an indispensable reference work for neurologists, neurocritical care medics, intensivists, hospitalists, emergency room physicians, neurology residents and fellows. It is also a helpful resource for medical students, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners in hospital and neurocritical care facilities.

Neurology is primarily characterized by a variety of diseases which seem very similar and are therefore difficult to distinguish between. Skill at differential diagnosis is therefore absolutely paramount.
Neurological Differential Diagnosis is a streamlined handbook of prioritized differential diagnosis, to be used both in clinical practice and for exam review.

By presenting differential diagnosis in order of frequency and importance, this book provides a practical handbook for clinicians in training, as well as a potential resource for quick board review. Whilst the book covers the most important syndromes and disease entities, readers are referred to other texts for more exhaustive differentials. By limiting differentials in this way – to the most likely and most serious diagnoses – the reader can more easily recall relevant disease processes when faced with a particular clinical situation, whether it be a patient in the emergency room or a difficult question on the board examination.

The book specifically targets neurology residents and fellows, with overlap to neurosurgery and psychiatry. Internal medicine physicians with an interest in neurological problems and medical students looking for an edge in clinical neuroscience would also benefit from this text.

The content is primarily mid-level material, in a pedagogic format.

In order to organize the students’ thought processes concise tables and line drawing templates are included. The book is organized into broad chapters by type of disorder and some overlap occurs between particular chapters

This book takes a problem-oriented approach to the evaluation of common symptoms presenting to medical students. It begins with guidance in history taking and examination leading the student on to neurological examination. The following sections outline all the common presenting symptoms, such as forgetfulness, dizziness or pain, and relate them to the spectrum of neurological conditions and diseases. Some case histories are used to illustrate problems and the book ends with a section of MCQ’s.

This is the second in a new series which aims to help medical students to think like doctors. By combining a symptom and problem-based approach with systematic coverage, the book will appeal to instructors and students on traditional and integrated courses.

High resolution human imaging requires a high resolution atlas. There is no atlas that approaches the accuracy and comprehensiveness of The Atlas of the Human Brain.

This is the third, thoroughly revised, edition of the very successful atlas that received the Award of Excellence from the American Association of Publishers. Constructed by the recognized leaders in brain cartography, the atlas provides the most detailed and accurate delineations of brain structure available. It is intended as an atlas for day-to-day use in the research laboratory to identify macroscopic and microscopic structures in the human brain as collected in research data with a variety of methods. It will also be particularly useful for the interpretation of magnetic resonance imaging data. The Atlas includes a DVD with not only the atlas in electronic format, providing electronic versions of drawings and photographs to facilitate use of atlas contents with researchers’ own material, but also 3D visualisation software which allows easy browsing of the images, and a feature to allow direct retrieval of brain areas using coordinates obtained in magnetic resonance imaging.

* Brain structures are presented in the standard Talairach and Tournoux stereotaxic space
* DVD contains MRI-Navigator (3D visualisation of MR images), BrainNavigator (3D navigation through the detailed coronal atlas in PART 2) allowing the neuroimaging community to dial in the coordinates of their activation focus and find out what area of the brain the activation occurs in
* Significantly larger trim size (14 x 11 inches) providing much higher detail in the print graphics and photographs
