Endovascular intervention – using medication and devices introduced through catheters or microcatheters placed into the blood vessels through a percutaneous approach – has emerged as a relatively new minimally invasive approach to treat cerebrovascular disease and possibly intracranial neoplasms. This textbook provides a comprehensive review of principles pertinent to endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular diseases and intracranial tumors, with a detailed description of techniques for these procedures and periprocedural management strategies. Particular emphasis is placed on expert interpretation of the quality of evidence provided and implications for practice related to endovascular procedures. This will be essential reading for clinicians working in interventional neurology and cardiology, endovascular neurosurgery, vascular surgery and neuroradiology

Editorial Reviews

This book will help neurologists, internists, geneticists, rehabilitation physicians, residents and researchers to orientate themselves in the maze of variability and complexity surrounding neuromuscular disorders. Starting from the patient’s history, each case addresses pathogenesis, diagnostic tools, prognosis and treatment options for a specific disorder, with extensive cross-linking between cases.

Book Description

There are over 600 neuromuscular disorders and the variability of these syndromes can leave clinicians feeling as if they are lost in a maze as they seek to diagnose and manage patients. This book addresses this problem by using the case-history and symptom manifestation as a starting point for the diagnostic process in adult patients, mimicking the situation in the consultation room. For each case, diagnostic tools, disease pathogenesis, prognosis and treatment options are discussed, along with rare manifestations and differential diagnoses. Symptoms, signs and syndromes are cross-linked to help the reader navigate the variety of disorders. Accompanying tables give a broader picture of the manifestations of a particular disease within the landscape of neuromuscular disorders. This highly-illustrated book, with accompanying videos, will aid neurologists at all levels, internists, geneticists, rehabilitation physicians and researchers in the field, as they seek to familiarize themselves with this complex range of disorders.

Affecting 4 percent of children and 1-2 percent of the general population, epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders. The 1st edition of this guide proved to be the only one of its kind, covering many important aspects of diagnosis and treatment. Due to the continued advances being made in the subject, and building on the sell-out success of the 1st edition this thorough revision reflects the latest report of the ILAE classification core group and the significant progress made in the diagnosis, classification and treatment of the epilepsies.

1. Nice book that means just what it says. An excellent first chapter on the neuro exam. A good overview of neurological diagnostics. Then a very readable review of coma, CVD, headache, epilepsy, MS, Parkinson’s, peripheral neuropathy, vertigo, behavioral neuro, AD, etc. A nice chapter on the neurotoxic effects of non-neurological drugs. And more. Complete, but as stated, not written for a neurologist. Nice.

2. I used this text for studying for the boards. It is concise and relatively comprehensive though you will need other texts as a supplement. It was the easiest way to cover a wide range of disorders in a short period of time. The writing is well done and so is the organization. I will continue to use this book as a resource.

3. As a newly licensed FNP working in the Neurology setting I love how easy of a read this book is. The information is presented in a relevant order beginning with the exam and just what I was looking for. I will recommend this book to my peers!

Cerebral Angiography is a comprehensive and well-illustrated guide to the diagnostic use of cerebral angiography. The first part of the book depicts in detail the normal appearance of the cerebral vessels on angiographic studies. Sound knowledge of this normal vascular anatomy and clinical function is vital for correct interpretation of the clinical significance of the pathological processes addressed in the second part of the book. The latter include vascular abnormalities, including angiomas, fistulas, and aneurysms; atherosclerotic and non-atherosclerotic stenosis and occlusion of the cerebral vessels; and venous thrombosis. In each case, both typical and atypical appearances are presented. While the emphasis throughout is on the diagnostic value of cerebral angiography, a number of examples of endovascular treatment are also included to highlight the evolving possibilities of therapy and the role of cerebral angiography in treatment selection.

Review

‘This textbook is very useful for teaching … we would wholeheartedly recommend this book to anaesthetic trainees and all clinicians involved in neuroanaesthesia or intensive care. It complements traditional neuroanaesthesia textbooks and would be an excellent portable book to dip in and out of during a busy clinical day.’ British Journal of Anesthesia

Book Description

Caring for patients with neurologic disease in the operating room and intensive care unit is challenging. Case Studies in Neuroanesthesia and Neurocritical Care provides physicians with an outstanding guide for managing a wide variety of clinical situations. It is an ideal way to prepare for both written and oral board examinations.

The anesthetic considerations and procedures involved in the perioperative care of the neurosurgical patient are among the most complex in anesthesiology. The practice of neurosurgery and neuroanesthesiology encompasses a wide range of cases, from major spine surgery, to aneurysm clipping and awake craniotomy. Case Studies in Neuroanesthesia and Neurocritical Care provides a comprehensive view of real-world clinical practice. It contains over 90 case presentations with accompanying focussed discussions, covering the broad range of procedures and monitoring protocols involved in the care of the neurosurgical patient, including preoperative and postoperative care. The book is illustrated throughout with practical algorithms, useful tables and examples of neuroimaging. Written by leading neuroanesthesiologists, neurologists, neuroradiologists and neurosurgeons from the University of Michigan Medical School and the Cleveland Clinic, these clear, concise cases are an excellent way to prepare for specific surgical cases or to aid study for both written and oral board examinations.

This atlas is a detailed guide to the imaging appearances of gliomas following treatment with neurosurgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. Normal and pathological findings are displayed in detailed MR images that illustrate the potential modifications due to treatment. Particular emphasis is placed on characteristic appearances on the newer functional MR imaging techniques, including MR spectroscopy, diffusion-weighted imaging, and perfusion imaging. These techniques are revolutionizing neuroradiology by going beyond the demonstration of macroscopic alterations to the depiction of preceding metabolic changes at the cellular and subcellular level, thereby allowing earlier and more specific diagnosis. A key section comprising some 40 clinical cases and more than 500 illustrations offers an invaluable clinical and research tool not only for neuroradiologists but also for neurosurgeons, radiotherapists, and medical oncologists.
