Wallach’s Interpretation of Diagnostic Tests (Interpretation of Diagnostric Tests)

Features: Used Book in Good Condition

Wallach’s Interpretation of Diagnostic Tests, now in its Ninth Edition, has been completely revised and updated by a new author team from the Department of Hospital Laboratories, UMass Memorial Medical Center faculty, who are carrying on the tradition of Jacques Wallach’s teachings.  This textserves as a practical guide to the use of laboratory tests which aids physicians in using tests more effectively and efficiently by offering test outcomes, possible meanings, differential diagnosis, and summaries of tests available.

The book has been reorganized into 2 sections. The first section is devoted to an alphabetical listing of laboratory tests while stressing the integration of the clinical laboratory in the clinical decision making process. Test sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative infectious disease probabilities are included whenever appropriate. Microbiology tests are listed in a separate chapter.  The second section is devoted to disease states.  Where appropriate, a patient’s chief complaint and/or physical findings are initially presented with subsequent discussions focused on discrete disease states as they relate to a patient’s chief complaint.  Current molecular diagnostic testing, cytogenetics, common pitfalls, test limitations, and identification of appropriate tests for specific clinical presentations are also addressed.

Internal Medicine: An Illustrated Radiological Guide

Features: Used Book in Good Condition
By (author): Jarrah Ali Al-Tubaikh

In any radiology department worldwide, around 60–70% of investigations deal with surgical cases: trauma, tumors, pre- and postsurgical assessment, surgical follow-ups, and more. In spite of that, radiology has a lot to offer in the ? eld of internal medicine in terms of establishing, con? rming, or rejecting diagnoses, or favoring differential diagnoses. Before I joined radiology, I worked as an internal physician for almost a year and almost another year and half as a general surgeon. This clinical experience leads me to look at radiological images with the eye of a radiologist and the mind of a clinician when I examine patient radiological images. I even take a history and do a clinical examination if I have the chance when the patient is in the ultrasound, CT, or MRI room. I have always believed that the radiologist’s role is not con? ned to writing reports, but it can be broadened to establish the diagnosis in the ? rst hand in the same way as the clinician do. In the medical library, there are books dedicated to the clinical signs of internal medicine diseases; interestingly, there are no such books in the radiology library.

Mechanisms of Clinical Signs, 1e

Features: Used Book in Good Condition
By (author): Mark Dennis MBBS (Honours), William Talbot Bowen MBBS MD, Lucy Cho MBBS MIPH BA (University of Sydney)

The first consolidated textbook explaining the mechanism of clinical signs commonly seen in medicine. Mechanisms of Clinical Signs is the first consolidated text of its kind; designed to help medical students and junior doctors understand the pathophysiological mechanisms behind clinical signs. Unlike existing clinical examination textbooks which are predominantly organised by disease systems and states, Mechanisms of Clinical Signs is arranged by body system; bridging the gap between identifying clinical signs and understanding the causes behind them. Presented in a useful handbook style, Mechanisms of Clinical Signs discusses the evidence base and clinical value of each clinical sign to assist with interpretation. Examples are plentiful and include such signs as distinctive tremors in a Parkinson’s disease patient and red hands on a patient with liver disease. As well as being an easy-to-follow reference for clinical signs seen on the ward, Mechanisms of Clinical Signs is an excellent study aid – particularly useful for those preparing for ‘Viva’ or ‘OSCE’ practical stations. The ability to accurately identify and interpret clinical signs of disease upon examination is a vital first step in correct diagnosis and treatment. Mechanisms of Clinical Signs is therefore an essential textbook for medical students and new practitioners. Online StudentConsult resources accompany Mechanisms of Clinical Signs upon purchase.

• first consolidated text explaining the mechanism of clinical signs commonly seen in medicine
• easy reference guide for clinical signs seen on the ward or during examinations
• a resource for those preparing for “Viva? or “OSCE? practical stations where students see patients and are asked specific questions relating to the clinical examination
• organised by body system it reviews the common clinical signs seen in diseases by the main system or specialty of medicine in a convenient handbook style
• each chapter contains all the clinical signs, a description of the sign, the disease/s in which the sign appears and an explanation as to the mechanism
• evidence base and clinical value of the sign is discussed to assist interpretation
• Online Student Consult resources accompany the text
